In the words of ZaChoeje Rinpoche: “We all have healing, loving, wisdom and compassion aspects.” Through the Medicine Buddha practice, we invoke our own healing power. The practice of Medicine Buddha is a gentle yet profoundly powerful path of healing. We turn our hearts toward Bhaisajyaguru, the Buddha of Healing, whose body shines with the deep, luminous Lapis Lazuli light. This radiant blue form represents perfect physical and mental well-being, and the boundless compassion that longs to free all beings from suffering. As we visualize the Medicine Buddha seated upon a lotus throne, rays of healing light stream from his heart, touching our own body, mind, and spirit. With sincere motivation, we recite his mantra— Tayata Om Bekandze Bekandze Maha Bekandze Radza Samudgate Soha—calling forth the enlightened activity that pacifies illness, purifies negative karma, and restores harmony and balance within us and around us. This practice is especially meaningful for those facing health challenges, for caregivers supporting others, and for anyone wishing to send prayers of healing across the world. In turning to Medicine Buddha, we strengthen our own intention to bring benefit, comfort, and relief wherever it is needed. Through this meditation, our compassion becomes action, our intention becomes medicine, and our heart becomes a source of healing for all beings.
